STUNNING: PROMOTING CORPORATE RENOVATION IN EUROPE

Steinbeis 2i is working as a partner to the EU platform for energy-efficient renovation technology and business models

Buidling renovation is still running much too slowly in Europe to achieve the EU’s goals for 2050. It is therefore time to start accelerating activity. Not only will it be necessary to improve acceptance regarding building renovation among market players, more needs to be done to introduce energy-efficient renovation solutions across the board: By 2030 renovation levels should rise to 3% per annum. One of the main reasons market players are not open to innovative renovation concepts is that they lack suitable business models. That’s not to say that innovative business models do not exist – they are out there, but firms seem extremely reluctant to integrate them into everyday business. The question is: What can be done about this? Steinbeis 2i GmbH (S2i) is now working on solutions as part of an EU-funded initiative: Project STUNNING.

STUNNING (which stands for SusTainable bUsiNess models for the deep reNovation of buildiNGs) was launched to gather and analyse innovative building renovation programs and business models. It offers an online platform – the STUNNING Renovation Hub – for sharing scientific knowledge and know-how and showcasing successful business models and examples of building renovation.

The STUNNING Renovation Hub© network

The hub was created to foster collaboration and allow stakeholders to form interest groups at different stages of the value chain for exchanging ideas, knowledge and technology. Anyone interested in the platform can sign on to the STUNNING Renovation Hub free of charge. There are three key types of user involvement:

The STUNNING project is funded by the EU as part of the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement 768287. DOWEL Management (France) coordinates the project. Further project partners include CSTB (France), RINA Consulting (Italy), Solintel (Spain), and S2i (Germany).
