On the Path to Rapid Success – SurFunction Continues to Expand

New financing partners support expansion of the xDLIP technology platform

SurFunction, the Saarbrücken-based Steinbeis company, is entering the next phase of growth thanks to support from two new financing partners. The funding, described as a seven-digit sum, will be invested in international sales and marketing activities aimed at promoting the use of laser technology to produce new functional surfaces. According to the slogan Nature Knows Best, SurFunction is the first company to apply the opportunities offered by its complex laser interference processes to industrial applications.

“The financial boost – and working with leading family offices that actively support the long-term, sustainable, and organic direction we’re headed in – will not only make structures more professional and projects more efficient, but it will also actively drive the creation of a surface competence center at our site in Saarland,” explains Ralf Zastrau, a board member at SurFunction. His colleague and managing partner, Dr. Dominik Britz, adds: “We will continue to push ahead with market development this year, to win over companies with the economic benefits and environmental advantages offered by xDLIP platform technology.”

The diverse application scenarios offered by xDLIP

SurFunction was founded in early 2020 as a spin-off of Material Engineering Center Saarland (MECS), a Steinbeis Research Center. xDLIP (an acronym for extended direct laser interference patterning) allows the Steinbeis experts to offer a market-ready, scalable technology platform comprising compact systems, which are not only easy to integrate into production systems, but can also be optimized via a variety of complementary methods. For example, xDLIP makes it possible to produce surface functions in an environmentally friendly manner in areas such as manufacturing, medicine, and security systems.

Among others, a particular area of focus at the moment lies in solutions for electrical systems. The enterprise recently agreed to enter into a global strategic partnership with the winding and unwinding machine specialist Noxon Automation. The collaboration agreement will cover marketing and the professional integration of xDLIP technology into industrial production processes in the field of electrical contacts.
